Belize

I know I know I know....
I shouldn't have come here, but my lack of plans brought me here.
I was in El Remate (near Tikal) in the north of Guatemala, not so far from the Mexican border. What I didn't take in account is that all north Guatemala is a big forest and there is no possibilities to cross the border from there.
To get to Mexico I had to go southwest and cross one of the borders. But then I realised that it was easier to go to Belize, the border is very near to El Remate, and from there to Mexico. But once I began reading Belize travel guide, I decided to visit some places before heading to Mexico. Surprisingly, Belize is more little than Lombardia, so in few hours you can get wherever you want.
After few formalities at the border, here I am on a bus directed to Belize City where I will take a boat to Caye Caulker, one of the Caribbean Islands of the country. I would like to take some dives and some snorkeling. Belize has the second biggest reef in the world.
Already after the border I felt to be in another country. A big sign was welcoming Prince Harry and the local money, the Belizian dollar, bring a picture of Queen Elizabeth. Belize got its independence from Britain only in 1981. I still don't know if people are still influenced by the British culture, but for sure people here speak both English and Spanish as first languages. But theirs is a Caribbean English, a mixture of English, Spanish and African, difficult to understand. Someone just got on the bus selling some beverage made with weed. Do you think that this is possible or I just misunderstood him? Yeah, probably.... Or maybe not.
In the bus we are listening reggae music and this is already a step forward: in Guatemala I had to listen many times Massimo Di Cataldo, maybe some of my Italian friends still remember him...
In Belize there are 13 ethnic groups, among them the biggest ones are Creoles (descended from the Africans brought here as slaves ) and Mestizos (descended from Ameridians and the Spanish).
While writing I take many breaks to observe the landscape: banana and coconut trees, wooden houses, modern buildings, everything is green. My first impression of this country is great!
