Antigua

Also in Guatemala, like in other countries, I skipped the capital, Guatemala City, preferring Antigua to it.
Antigua is a nice colonial city, partially destroyed by strong earthquakes in 1717 and 1773 . Ruins can still be seen in all the city. In every corner there is a church and outside every church there are women selling candles or tortillas. The city is surrounded by active volcanos, but clouds always cover them and you need to be very lucky to see them (I was, the last day before leaving). The city offers a big artisanal market. Everything is so beautiful that you would like to buy everything, but after some time you get annoyed by the vendors that ask you "que estai buscando" (What are you looking for) as soon as they see you. What should I answer? It's an artisanal market, no one is really looking for something specific. Sometimes you just want to look and that's it. Other times you start a conversation with them and they put in your hands whatever they want to sell, telling you they will give you this for a very special price. When you tell them you are not interested, they offer you the same item for half price. When you go out from the shop, the price is already a quarter of the initial one and you still didn't try to negotiate. This reminds me of the Arab market in Jerusalem : same story. It never happened this in the other countries I visited in this trip, but I still like visiting artisanal markets.
