Fortuna and Arenal volcano

29/03/2014
My last stop before leaving Costa Rica was the town Fortuna and the volcano Arenal.
The city was nice but too touristic. Hostels and tour agencies everywhere. This area is characterised by many natural beauties ( waterfalls, hot springs, volcanos, lakes, rivers)  and sport attractions (canopy, rafting, hiking), but everything was really expensive. In Costa Rica they are used to ask for money for everything. There are no places you can visit for free. Just an example : we were walking in the street, we saw a little garden next to the river and we wanted to get next to the river to take a little break: 3 dollars!
The day after, we were at the bus stop waiting for the bus and a man gently stopped to give us a ride to the city: 2 dollars!
It never happened in the other countries. I got lot of free ride offers, no one even thought to ask for money.

The visit of the Arenal volcano was quite disappointing. The 5 km trail leaded only to the little area where it was possible to walk on the lava and the volcano was visible from far away. I expected to hike on the volcano itself, but I expected too much. The trail was nice, lot of vegetation, but nothing really special.
