Canyon de Colca
Arequipa is a nice city in the south of Perù. The main reason why I came here is to hike in the Colca Canyon. I booked for a 3 days hike in the canyon in a group of 11 people plus our guide. The first stop was in a mirador called Cruz del Condor, where you can see this condors flying inside the canyon. We saw some condors, but they were so far away that they looked very little. In adult age, they can reach huge dimensions : 1.5m high and 3m wing aperture.
Then we went to Cabanaconde where we started our trek. The first day was the hardest one for me. We went down into the canyon for 1000m and when I arrived my foots were really hurting. We spent the night in a nice hostel, while the day after we walked all morning to reach a oasis inside the canyon. The views of the oasis made all this hike worth. We spent the afternoon in the swimming pool and then playing volleyball. The day after, we started hiking the mountain at 5am. It was quite hard, but at least we walked all the way up in the shadow. It took me about 2.5h to reach the top, at that point I was dead :-) We spent the rest of the day going down and up from the bus taking pictures like Japanese tourists. At the end of the day I was very tired, I went to sleep early, knowing that the morning after I had to take another bus with Puno as destination.
